Holidays
I hope everyone had a nice holiday break and didn’t have to spend too much time with people who require extra energy. (Usually relatives!)
I spent Christmas with my wife’s family in Atlanta, whom I truly adore. Lot’s of laughing – lots of little kids and lots of sugar! You know the holiday 4 major food groups. The sucrose, the fructose, the glucose groups -- and, of course,...
Journal Oct 2007
Well, Summer’s over, except here in LA where summer tends to stick around. Football season brings “Oh shit it’s the same Detroit Lions” but I move on and do what I do… weep. Couple of movies wrapped, a trip to South America and some design projects happening.
The Other America
I just returned from a trip with my daughter to South America. It was nothing short of spectacular. ...
Hello strangers. As hard as I put in effort to journal in a timely fashion it seems like high school to me. I wait and wait to turn in the paper and time just flies by. Bare with me, it’s not for lack of caring that I share so sparingly it’s lack of focus more than likely.
Out of the Box
Trying new things can be a challenge and a gamble, but it can sometimes move you in a new direction – down a path you may...
Well folks I really can’t discuss much without saying…I got married. Hooked up with my wonderful, longtime, girlfriend, Jane in my birth sate of Colorado. The weather was perfect, the ceremony was full of fun and laughter, and it was great to bring the two big families together for this special event.
Jane left her long time home and moved in.
Japan
Return from a great trip to Japan with my daughter. The time thing was a freak out for me. The return especially as we left late afternoon on a Friday and arrived in LA earlier than we left -- the same day!?! What’s with that? (It’s like everything I did and said within those hours were a ‘re-do’. It’s interesting how the Japanese make a culture out of being polite.
CAPITALISM
Capitalism as practiced today seems to have, as a bi-product, a subtle kind of non-morality and seems to be encouraging class division. I continue to kick around alternative ideas to capitalism. The goal is to find a way to minimize the gap between the classes that still encourages talent and hard work.
From the world of professional sports consider the salary cap.
FILMING
Things keep moving forward and as they do, Santa Clause 3 has wrapped and The Shaggy Dog is off and running. The premiere was great fun and great to see all the folks who came out to support the film. I start shooting a new film in May called “Wild Hogs” with John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. I suppose you could call it a suburban biker movie.
The Santa Clause movie is still going strong but will be wrapping up near the end of February. Being on a movie set is much like camp when you were a kid. You spend so much time with these people, a lot of laughing and all working toward a common goal, and then you all go home – camp’s over. It’s always a bit of a let down. Even now, as we finish with each beautiful set, you watch people come in and tear it...
End of year journal
End of days / Beginning of a new year.
It was refreshing to have a break for the Christmas holiday – a break
from the routine – a break from the film – a time to travel and be with
family, both in Michigan and Colorado.
And life resumes. I begin my 17th day (out of 30) in full Santa
garb.
As ZOOM winds down here in Canada, it's time to take stock of
things. I will remember the long days doing what I do while
watching the story develop from a script I partnered in writing.
It's been a great time discovering and enjoying the relationships onand off the set.
