Asking questions and getting answers has been on my mind since the election. It’s so easy to disguise a non-answer within exposition. So many questions -- I hear no answers. Where is the money? Somebody explain to me how one ‘loses’ money. Perhaps it’s all in accepting an agreement on the definition of ‘lost’. If I have ‘lost’ something, it means I’ve misplaced it. The money the economy ‘lost’ is a different word definition. The Banks version of ‘lost’ is actually closer in meaning to the word ‘vanished’. Diamonds don’t vanish.
If they worked in diamonds or gold where would the actual gold have gone when the investment professionals say it’s lost? It’s a virtual world they describe and that’s creepy to me. I have been a fiscal focused man since I was young not accepting or believing in debt (outside of a home loan). My parents taught me that important responsibility: If you can’t pay for it, don’t buy it. So how did our debt become a trillion dollars?
This soon to be trillion-dollar debt begs obvious questions. Who loans such money (China?) and when do they expect us to pay? I don’t like debt so what if I chose to pay it off now what would that cost? What if those of us, grateful to be working, wanted to pay now? Why is that not an option? Because government revenue is taxes, so raising taxes is the way they do that and its political suicide so they borrow to lessen the reality. According to an Internal Revenue website about the tax year 2006, about 138,000,000 people paid taxes. Divide a trillion by that number and that gives you an idea what that would mean per taxpayer.
Round it off to 140 million taxpayers, and it would be about $7,200 per person. And that’s equal shares -- which of course would be graduated depending on tax bracket. Why not at least present that option and let us decide?
Your Questions
At the office I’m always brainstorming and coming up with new ideas & scripts for my team to develop. I noticed on the Idea Exchange that quite a few of you have asked if we will be doing a “Home Improvement” reunion show, HI movie, or bring back HI as a TV show. Although I loved the character I played and loved the cast I worked with, we don’t have plans for any of the above at the moment.
