Well folks I really can’t discuss much without saying…I got married. Hooked up with my wonderful, longtime, girlfriend, Jane in my birth sate of Colorado. The weather was perfect, the ceremony was full of fun and laughter, and it was great to bring the two big families together for this special event.
Jane left her long time home and moved in. I was anticipating the truckload of hair-care products, but I must admit -- I was surprised by the arrival of Pittsburgh Steelers posters, books, cups, and autographed jerseys –memorabilia everywhere. I didn’t just marry a sports fanatic I married a “STEELER FAN”. My long suffering Lions hold no candle. She is a true fan and I love it. But I was, however, wondering if it’s necessary for the life-size cutout of “The Bus” to be at the foot of the bed. Not that I’m intimidated by him – it.
Then it was on to The Santa Clause 3 Premiere – great fun -- and appearances on Leno, the Today Show, Regis, The View and the new hot daytime show, Rachael Ray. I really enjoyed doing The View as Martin Short and I went on together. He is one of the funniest, quickest guys. I dig the interplay and respect and admire his humor skills. We play so well off each other -- like an old married couple…what a frightening image. Sorry I put that in my own head. The movie continues to entertain.
My next film, “Wild Hogs” doesn’t come out until next March, but when I went to see “Deja-Vu” last weekend, I was surprised to see that they were running the “Wild Hogs” trailer”. Kind of embarrassed to have everyone notice me, then watch that trailer. I was there to see Denzel in his work and enjoy the film as a moviegoer. It was funny but I felt kind of on the spot. Good reaction to the trailer, however. Looks like people get it. Look for the four of us (Travolta, Martin Lawrence, Bill Macy) doing press over the next months. Might be fun to see us together.
I was grateful to be part of a “Big Brothers-Big Sisters” event to honor many generous people, including John Lassiter, the creator of so many Pixar hits including my favorites -- TOY STORY 1,2 and most likely 3. The speakers, the stories and the evening was quite moving and emotional for this smart-ass comic. I love making the folks laugh but what a glorious night to be among miracles, one child at a time. Being a mentor makes such a difference in a kid’s life. What a night.
I am moved to consider how valuable the children are and was struck by the harm done to them on so many levels. So I wrote this next paragraph to express some outrage.
Treason against the children. Should we consider Pedophilia a capital crime?
Consider the children and their youth. Consider that youth -- it’s that innocence, the precious time between birth and adulthood grows the children for the future. And consider the growing children, like the plants in a garden. Like that garden, with proper care and feeding, we provide a bounty to feed us in the future. Our children, with steady growth, will bear fruit and become our most precious resource. They will become who we are and what we will be. The children hold the hope and sustenance of the future of humankind.
How are we then to consider those who contaminate this garden, our children, and our future? It must be debated that the crime of pedophilia corrupts and destroys our children at a most fundamental level. Not just the pollution of innocence, but the contamination of our future and those to come after us. This destruction and disregard for our children now and to come, must be considered a capital crime no different than that of murder or treason. Treason of the highest order: betrayal of innocent children in the present and the murder of the future, being the murder of us all. One must be aware of the responsibility of such treason and be held accountable.
I used my words to express my outrage when I read of the misdeeds to kids.
Okay – so now, on a lighter note -- enjoy the holidays. Enjoy the parties with friends, time with family, and ringing in the New Year.
