As you probably guessed—I love cars. As a kid growing up in “Motor City” the itch to tinker with cars was unavoidable. One of the first cars I worked on was a VW-based dune buggy and I haven’t stopped loving cars since. Here are some of my favorites!
Between Tim’s commission and design, president of Wheel to Wheel—Jeff Beitzel’s prototype assembly and overseen by Cadillac’s Jon Moss, this one-of-a-kind DeVille boasts a 279 Northstar engine with 398 horsepower at 6400 rpm.
This 1999 licorice black street rod has a Ford Racing 351 with SVO GT40 aluminum heads and Edelbrock manifold. With Tim’s input, this car represents an incredible piece of workmanship from Steve Moal.
Tired of pulling up to special events in the customary limousine, Tim worked in partnership with Chevy’s Jon Moss and Wheel to Wheel’s Jeff Beitzel to transform a 1996 Impala SS into a black, menacingly fast but also supremely comfortable one-of-a-kind ride. In addition to Tim’s exterior and interior aesthetic modifications, this SS holds a DOHC 32-valve Corvette ZR1 engine and delivers 446 hp at 5500 rpm. The rear also includes a “Binford 6100” badge. (Binford is the hypothetical tool manufacturer from Home Improvement’s “Tool Time” show.)
Every panel of this all steel body has been modified including a 3 1/2 inch chopped top. Under the hood sits a blown, injected 426 Hemi, putting out 1100 horsepower. The interior features a smooth dash with no visible switches. A vintage gauge cluster is centered in the dash with retro fitted VDO gauges. Dare blue Mercedes leather covers the bench seat and door panels. This is a truly one of a kind vehicle. The perfect 'work' truck. When Tim drove this down his block it set off building alarms.
Tim’s 1946 Ford Convertible is one of the two cars built on his hit TV show “Home Improvement.” This car was in such bad shape it had to be rebuilt from the ground up. Xtreme Motorsports built the complete chassis, all body modifications and oversaw the remaining vehicle construction. The completed maroon bombshell with a tan ragtop boasts a 292 ci Motor City Flathead pumping 225 hp, a C4 trannie with overdrive, Heidts independent front suspension, CWI/Ford rear, Lokar shifter, Kicker Audio system, and a host of other custom mods. It remains one of Tim’s favorite cars.
This Roadster, fitted with a 350 Chevy engine ("RRR” branded), and a custom grill was a featured player on the show “Home Improvement”. In fact, Tim Taylor actually built this hotrod from the frame rails up on the show. (This Roadster is very dear to Tim’s heart.)
